Have you ever had a restaurant or eatery that you visit so frequently that you end up bringing your close friends and others to try the place? I have a restaurant, or I prefer to call it a warung, that I visited very often during my college days and was always my go-to choice when I was confused about what to have for lunch!

Besides being affordable, another reason I frequented this warung is because its cooking cured my longing for home-cooked meals that my mother used to make. Without further delay, let me take you to Warung Makan Prasmanan Flamboyan, which holds a special place in my heart and in the hearts of Yogyakarta locals!

Warung Makan Flamboyan Location

Warung Flamboyan is quite easy to find. You just need to type ‘Warung Makan Flamboyan’ in Google Maps and you’ll be directed to Jalan Flamboyan CTX No.39 Karang Asam Baru, Sleman. Although you have to enter through an alley, you can easily spot the warung because there’s a large name board as a marker.

The Atmosphere

Since we went during lunch hour, the warung was naturally quite crowded with visitors. But because this eatery is quite spacious and provides plenty of chairs, I wasn’t worried about running out of seats.

Upon arrival, just go straight into the middle room flanked by dining areas. There you’ll find many types of food that you can take freely. When I visited, the queue wasn’t too long. People also picked their dishes relatively quickly. The vegetables served were still warm and plentiful.

In the display case in the middle of the room, the bottom rack serves clear vegetable soup and vegetables with Yogyakarta-style coconut milk gravy. On the other side, non-soup vegetable dishes are served. In the upper display case, fried dishes like fried catfish, fried eggs, vegetable fritters, fish fillets, fried tempeh and tofu are served.

Besides the center display case, there’s also a display case placed near the wall. There you’ll find various other dishes, several types of chicken preparations, dried tempeh, eggs and eggplant balado, drinking water, sambal already prepared in small plates, and complementary snacks namely sesame fried bananas.

The cashier is also in the same room as this buffet area. There’s usually a queue when calculating food prices, and the line can be quite long and somewhat disruptive when you want to take from the buffet.

You can also take kerupuk (crackers) available near the cashier table.

HOW TO ORDER

Ordering food here is quite easy. Once you enter, you can immediately take a plate and spoon for rice, and choose various vegetables and side dishes that are neatly arranged in the room. Small bowls are also available specifically for soupy vegetables.

Besides main dishes, there are also kerupuk, sambal, fruits, and delicious snacks like fried bananas. With so many tempting menu choices, it’s natural if you feel confused when selecting food. But don’t worry! Warung Flamboyan staff are always ready to help and give suggestions for dishes that suit you. So, don’t hesitate to ask if you’re having difficulty!

After finishing your food selection, bring your plates and bowls to the cashier to be calculated and to order drinks. For mineral water, you can take it directly to your table. However, if you order other drinks, your order will be delivered directly to your table after preparation. Payment can be made in cash or non-cash through QRIS scan. After payment, you’ll be given a tray to make it easier to carry your food to the table.
